Energy For The Good Doer
Area manager for the East, Lillianne, competes her 13 year old Dutch Warmblood, Boss, in Dressage and Showjumping. Lillianne was looking for an increase in energy for Boss, who was being fed Essential Balancer, without increasing calories as Boss maintains his weight well on a small amount of feed. Lillianne decided the best step up to increase energy but keep calories low was to swap him onto Competition-Fit Balancer. Lillianne came back to us with the following feedback:
Being a good doer with natural energy Boss thrives off a balancer due to them being low in calories but packed full of all the vitamins, minerals and protein that he needs. This year he has stepped up a level in Dressage and Showjumping so I switched him from Essential Balancer to Competition-Fit Balancer to help support his work load. The small inclusion of micronised maize in Competition-Fit Balancer has helped give him a little bit more off the leg energy, without making him fizzy to help keep the trainable temperament. With Boss out competing the maize also helps in replenishing glycogen stores during periods of high intensity work which helps to prevent fatigue as well as the inclusion of vitamin E for an antioxidant purpose. Competition-Fit Balancer contains acid buff and a live yeast which help to keep his stomach and hindgut environments healthy, particularly as he’s travelling.
Competition-Fit Balancer is in the unique form of a mix and is based on highly digestible ‘Super-Fibres’ and oils to provide continuous slow release energy, as well as encouraging a healthy digestive system and microflora balance in the hindgut. ‘Super-Fibres’ also help to maintain hydration in the competition horses as they help to encourage water intake and retention in the hindgut. A small micronised cereal inclusion helps to maintain palatability, whilst ensuring muscle glycogen and energy reserve stores are not depleted, thus supporting optimum recovery rates post exercise, and reducing the onset of early fatigue. As well as providing additional energy and ‘sparkle’ when needed, although due to the low feeding rates does not encourage ‘fizzy’ or spooky behaviours. Quality sources of protein are included to ensure a supply of essential amino acids to help support muscle development, cell renewal, tissue, and muscle repair. Competition-Fit Balancer is fully fortified with vitamins, chelated minerals and essential antioxidants to provide a balanced ration when fed at low intakes. The antioxidants include Vitamin E and Selenium to help protect the muscles against free radical induced damage, thus helping to support the recovery of muscles and general overall immune function and health. The mix also contains the optimum inclusion of a live yeast as well as Acid Buf, a marine derived buffering agent which through feeding trials has been proven to help support the optimum environment of the stomach and hindgut, helping to manage optimal digestive health, especially for horses that are regularly travelling or competing. The use of a live yeast has also been shown to help support feed and forage digestibility as well as maintaining a stable gut microflora population during times of stress, e.g. travelling, competing or sickness. Competition-Fit Balancer also contains an encapsulated red apple flavour, as well as Saracen Horse Feeds unique Palatability +, which will entice even the fussiest of feeders. Palatability + is a unique seasoning that is formulated to maintain high levels of taste, and feed intake using a unique savoury profile, particularly when combined with Saracen Horse Feeds, encapsulated flavours.
