Shire Show Success

The National Shire Show showcases the very best of the breed across multiple classes. Saracen Horse Feeds were proud sponsors of the ridden classes throughout the weekend.

Many congratulations go to Emma Green who won the Saracen Horse Feeds Novice Ridden with Bordley House Norman. Emma also won the Saracen Open Ridden with Lindy Winship’s, Westfield Calendar Girl and went on to take the Championship Title at the National Shire Show. The Reserve Champion was Bordley House Norman ridden by Karen Talbot.

Nic Read, our Southern Area Nutritionist attended the Shire Horse Show. “From my perspective I would say it was great to see more Saracen fed horses at the National Shire Show than ever. After the show has had to be held off for the last 2 years due to covid the atmosphere was great. We had lots of people talking to us about how to improve their horses diets, wanting to know how to have them looking their absolute best for the season ahead. The ridden section was a real highlight, seeing so many quality horses come forward for all of the classes”.

The Horse of the Year Show Qualifier this year was won by the stunning Acle Director ridden by Hollie Butterworth.

Hollie Butterworth said “Following the retirement of our stallion from ridden work 12 months ago, we managed to acquire one of his sons and we decided to make our come back greater than our set back. I have always dreamt of qualifying for HOYS, and having a busy schedule with family and work commitments as well as our other horses and breeding programme has required determination. Fitting in the work whenever I get a spare moment. Acle Director is still a young horse, we campaigned him lightly last year as a 4yr old as it was his first year under saddle, and he gained good results. I then turned him away over winter to grow and mature and bought him back into work earlier this year and for him to win the HOYS qualifier as a 5yr old at his first show is incredible. I am so proud of him and so excited for the future we have together”.
